REAL ALES Guest ales

Our Real Ales & Guest Ales

We offer three real ales – Wye Valley Bitter, Bathams Best and Ledbury Gold, plus one other guest beer.

We have featured in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide since 2009 and included, yet again, in the 2014 edition. We take this as a compliment to the care and special attention we give to our real ale selection.

Ledbury Gold is a new addition to our cask ale offering. It is produced just up the road from here by Ledbury Real Ales, using two local Herefordshire hops. It is a golden bitter with a malt and hop combination that ensures it is well balanced with a honey and fruit finish. This ale is proving very popular with our locals.

Wye Valley Bitter, produced by the ever popular and consistent Wye Valley Brewer in Herefordshire, this bitter, produced with locally grown hops, has been a regular on our real ale menu since we opened in 2007.

Bathams Bitter needs no introduction to the real ale fraternity and we are lucky to be one of the few pubs selling this famous brew outside Bathams’s own pubs. Quoting Charles Campion, the well-known food and drink’s critic “Bathams a heavyweight straying south from its Black Country home” is always on tap at The Oak.

We also sell draft local cider: Stowford Press from Weston’s Cider at Much Marcle, together with a selection of their bottled cider and perry – and Robinsons’ Flagon. Robinsons have been making cider in Tenbury Wells for over 200 years. Served on draft the Flagon is variably hazy and gently sparkling to retain its traditional character and delicious flavour. Cider as it should be ……….

Wye ValleyWye Valley Bitter
Brewed using Maris Otter and Crystal malts together with locally grown Target and Goldings hops, Wye Valley Bitter has a delicate hoppy aroma leading on to a full malty flavour and ending in a crisp, clean bitter finish. 3.7% ABV.

BathamsBathams Best
A straw-coloured bitter which initially seems sweet, but a complex dry, hoppy taste soon predominates. OG 1044 ABV 4.3%.

Ledbury GoldLedbury Gold

Robinsons FlagonRobinsons Flagon
This is on the medium end of the dry cider spectrum and is distinctively (and variably) hazy rather than filtered to clarity. We feel that keeps it "closer to the apple" than commercially produced draught ciders. It's a revival of the traditional style of cider we used to enjoy prior to the development of today's national brands. It's gently sparkling rather than gassy because we believe that makes it easier to drink and lets you taste the superb apple flavour. 4.5% ABV.

Stowford PressStowford Press
Stowford Press is a sparkling medium dry cider which has built its popularity on its premium taste and quality. 4.5% ABV.
